With India trying to develop its semiconductor presence worldwide, Micron Technology CEO Sanjay Mehrotra’s update about the chip export pinned optimism towards the country’s Semicon ride globally.
Mehrotra said the chips to be manufactured in Micron’s Gujarat facility will be shipped in India as well as abroad. The CEO was addressing an annual semiconductor conference in Gujarat.
Emphasising the plant for being the first and major semiconductor investment in the nation, he said “It feels proud to represent Micron’s commitment to building a semiconductor test facility right in Gujarat.”
The CEO underlined Micron’s team of more than 3,000 engineers in India is a proud achievement in just a few years. Furthermore, Mehrotra said the company’s Gujarat facility will soon create as many as 5,000 new jobs and additional 15,000 jobs in the community.
The American chip maker’s semiconductor plant in Gujarat was announced earlier in June 2022 with a USD 825 million investment. Commenting on the investment the company said with the Centre and Gujarat government’s support, the total investment in the factory is likely to be USD 2.75 billion, as per reports.
