The Central government is expected to come out with the much-awaited draft of the e-commerce policy. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday held the final round of consultations with industry representatives from Amazon, Flipkart, Tata Digital and more.
Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh and Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Rajesh Kumar Singh were also present in the meeting.
As per reports, the discussion covered important topics such as predatory practices used by major industry players, significant discounts, and the contrast between marketplaces and e-commerce platforms driven by inventory.
Other topics that came up for consideration during the consultations included whether to maintain backup responsibility on e-commerce platforms and how to encourage the digitisation of small and medium-sized businesses.
Everyone in the discussion agreed that, in view of the expanding e-commerce sector and shifting market dynamics, the e-commerce policy should be introduced as soon as feasible along with modifications to the Consumer Protection Act.
