Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has given the green light for an additional 83 shops and commercial establishments in the city to operate around the clock.

Upon receiving approval from the lieutenant governor, these establishments will join the existing 635 in being permitted to run 24 hours, as stated in an official announcement.

Only 269 shops and establishments were granted this round-the-clock privilege from 1954 to 2022.

According to the statement, shop owners are required to adhere to the provisions and regulations outlined in the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act of 1954.

The government plans to closely monitor these establishments to ensure compliance, taking appropriate action against any violations.

According to the statement, the operation of these commercial establishments for 24 hours will not only boost the economy but also create new job opportunities for youngsters. 

A total of 122 individuals, under the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act, expressed their interest in operating shops for 24 hours with the city labor department. Following a thorough examination of applications and documents, 29 application forms were found to have deficiencies.

However, the remaining 83 applications were deemed correct and in accordance with the regulations of the Delhi Shops and Establishment Act, resulting in the approval of these commercial establishments.
