Apple is reportedly in talks for its substantial investments in artificial intelligence (AI), allocating millions of dollars to upgrade ‘Siri’, its digital assistant, according to a media report on Thursday.
The iPhone major aims to deeply integrate Siri with the shortcut’s automation tool as a part of the iOS 18 update which is likely to be released in late 2024, the report said additionally.
It is also reported that Siri’s development team is planning to incorporate language models, enabling users to automate complex tasks using generative AI.
According to the report, Johnny Giannandrea, the Senior Vice president of Machine Learning and AI Strategy at Apple, would play a key role in the company’s AI project.
Giannandrea is responsible for directly reporting to Apple’s CEO Tim Cook and has previously worked at Google, leading Machine Intelligence, Research and Search teams.
Apple has even recently commissioned a 16-member team named the “Foundational Model,” which is supposed to conduct long-term research on multimodal AI, a project spending millions of dollars a day.
