Ahead of the Apple retail store launch in Mumbai, company’s CEO Tim Cook said that Apple was excited to build on long-standing history with India.
As Apple celebrated 25 years in India this week, Cook said in a statement, “India has such a beautiful culture and an incredible energy, and we’re excited to build on our long-standing history — supporting our customers, investing in local communities, and working together to build a better future with innovations that serve humanity.”
At BKC in Mumbai on Tuesday, Apple is slated to launch its first retail store in India followed by another in Delhi. These new retail locations mark Apple’s significant expansion in India.
According to reports, Cook will be flying to India to launch these stores in Mumbai and Delhi. The store in Delhi is set for a launch on 20 April.
This will be Cook’s second visit to India after 2016 and he is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well.
Apple had opened its Indian online store in 2020.
In a statement, Apple highlighted India’s community of app developers which supports over a million jobs. “A testament to the tremendous growth of developers in India, App Store payouts to developers in the country have more than tripled since 2018,” he said.
On the work done at the iOS App Design and Development Accelerator in Bengaluru, Apple says it works one-on-one with developers to help take their apps from good to great. “Since 2017, the accelerator has hosted sessions for more than 15,000 developers, enabling them to build on their ideas and bring cutting-edge apps to the market,” it added.
